Some people would go to the loo by car if they could IMO.
That said I drive into the nearest village when necessary , if it is raining.
That's ten minutes away by bike along a flat and traffic-free promenade.
Bike or walk every time otherwise, I prefer fresh air.

I suppose it depends on what you define as a short distance, i would walk 1/2 mile to pop to the local shop but probably jump in teh car if it was pushingt owards a mile. All depends on the time available really.

When we had a post office/shop i always walked the mile to and from it, ane when i lived in rhe city i always walked to the shops and back for milk ant other odds and sods.

But now that the only shop has closed, i don't fancy walking a round trip of around 18 miles.^_^. We do get delivery drivers though who will insist on driving their vans down a narrow drive because they can't be bothered to walk 30 feet.
