With recent stories about drone activity in the news where airports have been closed for safety reasons. And a few more near misses on final. Would you be willing to wait whilst the problem has been sorted out, or more willing to complain that something should be done about the drones.

If the second, what would you want to be done to allow you to travel. It's not an issue that can just be brushed aside. Near misses with drones on final approach/take off at UK airports is on the increase, with nearly 100 recorded last year(2018).

Many appear to be people wanting the "perfect shot" of the aircraft, which can only be got this way.

In short should security & safety come before the ability to travel?

Actually I think the problem is being wildly overstated. The biggest problem is press hysteria wanting a kneejerk reaction. Also, and I had this confirmed by a representative from NATS what used to be reported as a UFO (not the little green men type but the literal meaning) is now usually reported as a drone.
Flying a drone in the vicinity of an aerodrome is and always has been illegal without permission, there have been a small number of incidents where as is usually the case the offwnder is let off with a slapped wrist rather than a suitable punishment. The upcoming introduction of operator registration and online competency test will do nothing to combat the issue either. The good thing is the sale of "consumer drones" has plummeted, pardon the pun.

The detective in charge didnt say no drone had been seen though.

He said there may not have been a drone.

There were however well over 100 reported sightings of a "drone".

Nearby airport has had a few "go arounds" due to drones being flown over the runway. Offenders caught when they posted the video online.
