Eight-year-old Adou Ouattara was discovered after Spanish police X-rayed a suitcase

The father of an eight-year-old boy from Ivory Coast who was crammed into a suitcase that was found at a border crossing with Spain in 2015 goes on trial today in Ceuta, a Spanish territory in northern Morocco.

Migrants from Africa regularly try to reach Spain by scaling high border fences, hiding behind car dashboards or in bus chassis.

Prosecutors are seeking a three-year prison term for Ali Ouattara for facilitating his son's illegal entry into Europe and endangering the child's life.

"I'm going to this trial with a lot of confidence because I'm not a human trafficker," Mr Ouattara, 45, told AFP.

Good lord. The parents must have een desperate to be reunited with their child, but to put him in the hands of traffickers is something else.
