Why do you think the study of the possible effects of aerosols on climate is a crack pot idea?
    Serious question.

Not the reasoning, but the way that the BBC reports that molecules from deep fat friers could cool the atmosphere, not that aerosols could do it. And it seems that a lot more research needs to be done before claims like that are made.

Seems there are scientists who also say there is no evidance to support it. It is rash to publish findings when no clear evidance one way or another exists and even the scientists say that much more research is needed before any findings can be proven.

Maybe they or the BBC should not have used the deep fat fryer analogy.

Ok, fair enough. Journalists making stupid headlines.

From what the BBC article says (which may be a distortion of the actual report), it looks like they were specifically investigating aerosols from cooking oils, and decided that there may be an effect, but is yet to be confirmed (or not). It's already known that other aerosols, such as sulphur dioxides from volcanic eruptions, do have a cooling effect.

Then the journalists extrapolated beyond all reason.

Exactly. Its amazing how reporters can twist and turn what could turn out to be good science.

If it did work what a diferance it would make. Well worth watching for any further developements i think.

More deep fried food = more obese people with bad hearts = higher death rate = lower population = less pollution = better environment.

We already have more obese people than a few decades ago. Cars, sedentary jobs, and fatty sugary processed foods have seen to that.

Fryer is just icing on the fat cake.

As I'm posting quite a lot about farting this week....

Will the benefits off set the extra methane generated by eating more chips or deep fried mars bars?
