The Scottish Labour Party have elected Richard Leonard as their new leader. An unknown to the public, he's a one time union official and obscure list MSP who promises to make the party more socialist. His opponent was Anas Sarwar - widely regarded as a two-bob Blair.

Are we likely to see the party split further or can this man revitalise the Labour Party in Scotland?

Seems to me that both the labour and conservative party are specialising in having more and more obscure and unkown members becoming the leaders of their respective parties. They are all rapidly running out of people who are good enough to either run their party, unify their party, or take it forward.

I wonder how long this new leader will last.

I'm out of my depth here, but from what I'd seen, heard and read I thought that Ruth Davidson was rather well regarded, whether you supported her or not, and was certainly one to watch for the future.

Absolutely not my cup of tea politically but she talks straight in a way Westminster's knobbers could learn from.

I'll wait and see what Kezia Dugdale says about it tonight.
