The lack of new antibiotics and the very real threat of exisitng antibotics no longer being effective is a great cause for concern on every continent.

Antibiotics have been so over prescribed since their discovery that there is a very real danger that all too soon, more and more people could die from simple infections that were once easily cured with a simple 5 or 7 day course of drugs.

Farmers also give their animals antibiotics as a preventative treatment rather than as a cure and this is also part of the problem. Giving the drugs to animals to prevent possible infections from occuring is a complete waste of time, yet governments everywhere seem to be playing down the really enormous danger that we could all end up facing.

There have been no new antibiotics discovered for decades. There seems to be a lack of money and investment by companies whose bottom line is profit.
